Beautiful color print titled “Various Colours of the Moon during Eclipses” from the book “Le Ciel,” illustrated under the direction of Lucien Rudaux and authored by Alphonse Berget in 1923.

Printed on heavyweight, museum-quality Hahnemühle Fine-Art paper, this exquisite reproduction brings to life the captivating phases of the Moon during lunar eclipses.

lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the Moon’s surface. During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon can appear red, earning it the nickname “Blood Moon.” Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to view with the naked eye and can last for several hours. The longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century occurred on July 27, 2018, lasting for one hour and 43 minutes.

Alphonse Berget (1860–1933) was a French physicist, geophysicist, and oceanographer. He earned his doctorate in physical sciences and conducted groundbreaking experiments on gravitation and the Earth’s rotation. Berget was also a professor of oceanography, developing several instruments to measure the salinity and compression of seawater.

Lucien Rudaux (1874–1947), a French artist and astronomer, was renowned for his space-themed paintings in the 1920s and 1930s. His contributions to the field were so significant that the Rudaux crater on Mars and the asteroid 3574 Rudaux were named in his honor.
